Media companies follow editorial priorities and values, they are also companies, worth serious investment and governance. Those that are on the front of press freedom, they are especially worthwhile.
Christophe Leclercq, founder of EURACTIV, considers devoting some of his future resources to fighting disinformation and boosting innovation, on top of what EU and philanthropic organisations can do. If so, there would be several possible channels:
- Europe’s MediaLab is one, if it partners with the right organisations, fellows and skill sets.
- Other NGOs, typically in grants given more than equity & governance.
- Existing funds for impact investment, such as MDIF and Pluralis.
